Welcome to Derby Model Boat Club

  Now into our 42nd Year of Model Boating in Derby

The Club was founded in 1976 by a small group of model boat enthusiasts with the objectives of promoting the hobby of model boat building, operation and associated activities within the framework of local and national byelaws and legislation concerning model boating activities. Membership also provides insurance against third party liabilities whilst operating model boats. We also enjoy the right to sail on the small water adjacent to the Craft Village in the park Whilst access to the pond is available at all times, Members meet to sail at the following times:

Canoe pondTerm Time. Every Wednesday  and Sunday at 10am.

Craft Village water School Holidays. Every Wednesday  and Sunday at 10am .  Enter  Markeaton Lane car park, Turn 1st right and head towards the right hand corner, you will see a sign for additional parking and Craft Village parking. Follow this gravelled track and it will lead into a car park next to a high brick wall. You will see   pedestrian access to the craft village.

With the exception of  internal combustion engine powered models (which are not allowed on the pond) Club Members operate all types of model boats e.g. Ready-to-Sail, Almost-Ready-to-Sail, Kit and Scratch Built models. The type of model boat operated includes fishing boats, lifeboats, warships, speedboats, yachts and submarines.

Steam powered vessels are permitted providing they have a current boiler certificate issued by a Model Power Boat Association accredited tester.

Members meet socially on the second Tuesday of each month in The Woodpecker, Mackworth from 8.00 p.m. In April this includes a formal half-yearly meeting and in November an AGM when Members elect the Committee to conduct the Club’s affairs for the following year with all Members having equal voting rights.
